Too much income for Medicaid? Maybe not.

Most Georgia families never learn there's a program (Katie Beckett) that ignores parents' income completely — or that the SSI formula is far more forgiving than the number you saw online. This tool walks the same decision tree a benefits navigator would.

What you'll get: which program to pursue first, why, what documents to gather, and the deadlines that trip families up.
Stop 1 · Your child

Tell us about your child

Everything stays on this page — nothing is submitted until you choose to.

Check everything that applies. This helps estimate whether your child may meet the "institutional level of care" standard that Katie Beckett and GAPP look for.

Savings accounts, investments, or property titled to the child. (ABLE accounts don't count.)

Stop 2 · Your household

Who's in the home?

Family size changes every limit — and each additional child actually shields some of your income in the SSI formula.

Count a stepparent as a second parent if they live in the home.

Brothers and sisters — not counting the child we're finding a path for.

0

SSI has a parent asset limit, but your house, a car, and 401(k)/IRA accounts are excluded. Only checking/savings, extra vehicles, investments, etc. count.

Stop 3 · Income

Now, the money part

Use gross monthly amounts (before taxes come out). That's what the programs actually look at — and it's why the "real" limits are more forgiving than most families expect.

Paychecks and self-employment, before taxes. Combine both parents if two are in the home. Tip: pre-tax 401(k) contributions already reduce this number.

$

Unemployment, SSDI, workers' comp, pension, alimony received. Enter 0 if none.

$

Only support paid for this specific child. Enter 0 if none. (Only ⅔ of it counts in the SSI formula.)
